Basics on Shin

Shin Tsukimi is a lanky, weak young man who can't handle cold weather, can't eat anything solid because it hurts his tummy, loves soups and is "weaker than a middleschooler". Shin is socially awkward and tends to isolate himself. At some point, he had someone who he could call "a friend".

Shin and Sou met in high school. Shin being an socially awkward introvert, was adopted by the cheerful, extroverted, slightly unnerving, Sou Hiyori.

Shin and Sou would spend most of their evenings in Sou's basement, tweeking with computers. Although Shin admits to have a certain fear of Sou for his unhinged aura and behavior, Shin says they were close. We can notice in Shin's flashback that Shin had a laidback attitude with Sou, even if he was slightly disturbed by his mannerisms. Shin has a younger sibling whom he never got to meet. His biggest wish was to meet the sibling in question. Sou offered to turn that wish into reality if he signed a formulary called "Asunaro Vote".

After Shin signed the formulary, Sou was, unknown to shin, murdered shortly after that by Alice Yabusame. Shin thought that Sou just disappeared one day. He kept his friend's red scarf with him for company as he searches everywhere for clues on what happened to him. Even though Shin tried his best, he couldn't find even a single clue that Sou even existed. Before disappearing, Sou left Shin a note asking him to delete his computer data, which Shin did not do. Shin tried to open the folder, but it deleted itself. Shin couldn't even figure out if he wants to find out the truth about Sou now. Shin never got to find him, obviously. He has depended on his parents during his whole life, which he hates to do, but his gig as a freelancer can't really pay rent and food. He found a job as a convenience store cashier, being kidnapped shortly after that by Asunaro.

Shin was put in the Asunaro Death Game, among other participants. For Shin's first challenge, he was given a paper saying the survival chances of each participant of the Death Game. Shin was calculated to have 0.0% chances of survival, which frightned him, given that a high school student, Sara Chidouin, was estimated to have a 15% chance of survival. Shin broke down in fear. He decided to adopted his late friend's personality, Sou Hiyori, along with his name so that he can survive this Death Game, thinking that someone like Sou would have big chances of survival. Shin Tsukimi, now being called Sou Hiyori, adopted a cunning, manipulative personality as a facade for survival. Lying to everyone and worrying only about his own well-being, but not for long...

During the Death Game, Shin met a little girl, Kanna Kazuichi, who was very much like him: Weak and frail.

He felt pity for the little girl, and he could use an ally. After being the one who laid down the sacrifice, a card that pratically sentences the holder to death and the card whom Kanna had the bad lucky to take, Shin decided to trade with her. He gave her her a peasant card for the next death challenge so that she could survive. After the second challenge ended, Shin's manipulative mannerisms were exposed during the debate, so he had to find a way to not be hostilized by the other participants. Shin pretended to be hit on the head and to lose his memories of whatever happened during the first two challenges. Everyone but Sara fell for his lie, whom assigned Kanna to keep an eye on shin as a redemption for cooperating with him during the second challenge
